Why Summer is a Good Time for Duct Cleaning

If it seems like your home’s indoor air quality has been poor lately, you may need to invest in professional duct cleaning services. This is an especially good idea now in the summer months after a long winter season.

Keep reading to learn more about what duct cleaning is and why it is important for both your HVAC system and your family’s well-being. Then you can give us a call to schedule your duct services in Chandler before temperatures heat up even more.

Impacts of the Winter Season

When we face colder temperatures outside, you are more likely to close your home up to keep warm air inside and the cold air outside. Because of this, the indoor air quality in your home can go down. Without fresh air filtering inside as often, you may have higher dust levels.

Even when you change out the air filter on your AC regularly, some particles of dust and dirt can still get through the system and ultimately wind up in the ductwork. Over time, dust builds up in your ductwork to the point that it creates a significant layer.

Risks of Skipping Duct Cleaning

At first, dust buildup may not be a huge concern. But over months and years, dust buildup begins to cause other problems. These tiny particles can get in between the seals of duct joints. These joints can slowly loosen up to create gaps that allow even more dust to get in while conditioned air escapes at the same time.

Plus, the trapped dust is recirculating with clean air and blowing back out into your home via the vents in each room. This can exacerbate the situation by making your indoor air quality even worse. The cycle can continue until your ductwork is significantly damaged and your indoor air quality is poor enough to cause you and your family to get sick more often or experience amplified allergy symptoms.

Duct Cleaning Steps

You should schedule duct cleaning for your home every three to five years. During a duct cleaning appointment, we first assess the severity of cleaning needs. We may pressurize your entire duct system and vacuum out the dust from each section. If your ductwork is particularly dirty, we can use sanitizers that help to eliminate germs and bacteria.

If ductwork holes are a contributing factor to how dirty or ductwork is, we may also suggest that you invest in repairs to the attached joints. Then your ductwork will once again be completely airtight to lock in clean airflow and prevent dust from getting in as easily.
